Background

Based in Newton Le Willows, Warrington, The Parcel Delivery Company specialises in moving documents, parcels and pallets for overnight delivery or 2-4 day delivery depending on the customer's requirements.

The problem

In order to support its business operation, The Parcel Delivery Company want to be able to take online delivery requests and for the customer to pay for the parcels delivery and collection online. Therefore, it4 was approached to develop a bespoke ordering and payment processing system which will predominantly:

  • Integrate with their website
  • Process orders and collect payment by credit card or invoice as appropriate
  • Automate orders with designated carriers

The Solution

it4 developed a bespoke online application to handle the order processing and payment which fully integrated with the design of their new website. The system is:

  • Simple - easy to use by users of all levels of computer literacy
  • Fast - with many processes automated wherever possible and appropriate
  • Scalable - solution can be enhanced to meet the organisation's changing requirements
  • Reliable - with professional ongoing support
  • Cost effective - delivers value added benefits to the client

A simple four step ordering process has been implemented to provide an easy way for customers to place an order therefore encouraging them to return again in the future. Many of the complicated options used by rival systems have been removed.

Payment Options - The solution incorporated two methods of payment depending on the user's relationship with the client. Users can pay immediately by credit card with payments being handled securely by the Pro-tx payment gateway or if applicable they can choose to pay on account and be invoiced for the order.

Email Notification - When a customer places an order for delivery, upon confirmation of this order, they are sent an email. This will either be a receipt of payment or an invoice.
